Recently…

School is really stressful.. and it pretty much occupies all of my time.  But, here are some other things that have been going on:

Been listening to lots of Coldplay… trying to learn just how they create amazing songs with such simple melodies.  It’s challenging, but it’s really fun.

Our band has been rocking lately.  We call ourselves Technicolor.  I play with a group of guys usually once a week & we’ve been working on a song for a long time that I’m super excited about.  It’s killer, man.  I’ve never felt so good about anything I’ve written before.  We’re auditioning for the Providence Variety Show (or a giant school-wide talent show, whichever you prefer) next week.  I really think we’ve got what it takes to make it into the show.

We recorded it on a little device that may allow me to post it in the near future.  So be looking out for that…   And, who knows?  Maybe Technicolor will become a household name someday.. You never know ;)

Currently Listening to: Lovers in Japan by Coldplay

An iPod on shuffle holds limitless possibilities…

I just discovered a new music gem.  Listening to my iPod, I found this guy that I haven’t heard in a while.

–> Any Way You Want It by Journey.  Oh my goodness.

The song is super catchy, has some killer guitar lines, and just makes you want to dance like it was 1980.  (Not that I would know what it was like at that time..  just using an expression!)

You should really go listen to it.  It’ll make you want to sing along and indulge yourself all over again with music from that wonderful time period.  :)

I’m Feeling Productive.

I had a band practice today with some great guys, and we got through two songs that I had come up with melodies for just yesterday.  They still need some work, but we’ve really got a solid structure on both of the songs.  We’d been playing classic rock covers for fun for a while, but switched to a more modern U2/Coldplay kind of sound recently.  I think if we keep playing like this, we could show lots of promise!

Plus, we even came up with a killer name.  (More on that later!)

Listening to:  “The Scientist” by Coldplay

A New Favorite Song

Fix You by Coldplay.

One of the simplest songs I’ve ever heard.  One of the most beautiful songs I’ve ever heard.

How does Coldplay do it?  AND:  in the video, they do the lightbulb effect we did at church yesterday!  Epic!

check out 2:50 for the lightbulb thing.  It’s amazing.

lyrics:
When you try your best, but you don’t succeed
When you get what you want, but not what you need
When you feel so tired, but you can’t sleep
Stuck in reverse

And the tears come streaming down your face
When you lose something you can’t replace
When you love someone but it goes to waste
Could it be worse?

Lights will guide you home,
And ignite your bones,
And I will try to fix you,

High up above or down below
When you’re too in love to let it go
But if you never try you’ll never know
Just what you’re worth

Tears stream down your face
When you lose something you cannot replace
Tears stream down on your face
And I

Tears stream down your face
I promise you I will learn from my mistakes
Tears stream down on your face
And I…

More Music!

So… it’s been a while since I last posted.  To whoever reads this, I’m sorry for the delay.  And, my summer’s been pretty busy so far, and will get busier towards the beginning of next week.  In the meantime, I would like to take a minute to talk about some music that has been inspirational to me in the past few weeks.  Here we go!

1.Viva La Vida by Coldplay.

Viva La Vida

You’ve probably heard about it from multiple people just like I’m telling you about it now.  It’s creative and new, but it’s also a fairly simple album melody-wise.  Well-crafted.  I hadn’t listened to these guys before I heard about this album, and overall, it’s a nice album to listen to in your spare time.  Maybe you would feel more sophisticated it you drank coffee while you listened.  You should try it.

2. We Are Alive by Elevation Worship

Elevation Church is amazing.  We’ve been singing these songs for a while, and they were crafted in the hearts of three amazing guys.  Each worship leader has written songs on this album, and it’s truly a gem which shows the mission and heart of our church.  You should go check it out now.  Yes.

3. The Bird and the Bee Sides by Relient K

The Bird And The Bee Sides

I have been a Relient K fan for as long as I can remember.  (2001-ish)  And these guys never fail to put out amazing tunes.  They’re probably one of my all-time favorites in musicland.  :)   This one is chocked-full of B-Sides, never-released tracks, including some written during the band’s beginning years, and even some acoustic versions of older songs.  I haven’t finished listening to it yet, but it’s great so far.  Give it a shot!

So there you go!  Just some music to check out and listen to for the next few days.  Have fun!

Feeling the vibes.

Here are some songs i’ve been listening to lately:

  • ‘Everything’s Magic’ ~ Angels & Airwaves
  • ‘All These Things That I’ve Done’ ~ The Killers
  • ‘Clocks’ ~ Coldplay
  • ‘Say (All I Need)’ ~ OneRepublic
  • “Enter This Temple’ ~ Leeland

I’ve been in a good mood lately- these songs are just fun to listen to.

isn’t music great?

Ahh… Playing guitar is my passion.  And nothing is more satisfying than turning up my amp to exhilarating volumes and pumping out some vibes.  Pretty loud vibes too-  A neighbor two doors down asked me about my playing a week ago and said it sounded good.  maybe I should turn it down a bit… ;)
